The Matthew Mangine Jr. Foundation (MMJF), whose mission is to promote awareness, education, and medical safety measures of all cardiac related episodes for competitive youth and high school sports, invites our entire community to visit the foundation’s webpage for the “MMJF Online October Fundraiser.” This event is intended to celebrate the life of Matthew Mangine Jr. who passed away on June 16, 2020, at the age of 16 after, collapsing during soccer practice. The MMJF Foundation encourages our community to continue the gift of giving just as Matthew did as an organ donor. The foundation will be asking for $18 donations throughout the month in lieu of Matthew’s Heavenly 18th Birthday which would have been on October 13th. This event will take place the entire month of October beginning, Friday, October 1, 2021 through Sunday, October 31, 2021. Participants can get involved by visiting oneshot.life/mmjf-online-october-fundraiser.
The MMJF Online October Fundraiser will benefit several local school and club sports organizations in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. No registration is required for the event; however, we encourage all our community members to sign up on its website for updates on training sessions, future events, and ways to continuously support the foundation.
The fundraiser will feature the items that funds are being raised for, such as AEDs and cold tubs, along with special guest speakers throughout the month of October. Speakers will include MMJF founders to discuss the foundation purpose. We also have two local athletic directors who will discuss the impact of our relationship and the challenges they face in their roles. We will also feature two heartfelt speakers sharing their stories and challenges they have overcome, which include survival and overcoming the loss of a loved one.
“Given the amount of outreach and requests for support that we have received since our start-up in March 2021, we felt that our funds would be better utilized for current grant requests versus hosting a large in-person function as we had originally planned. This is our first year hosting this online fundraiser and we strive to grow every year by increasing participation and being an active resource for all youth sports.” says Kim Mangine, MMJF Co-Founder. With the help of TAKE10 Cincinnati, Nova Care Rehabilitation, and several local high schools, we anticipate doubling participation in 2022.”

Founded in 2021 and based in Union, KY, The Matthew Mangine Jr. “One Shot” Foundation was started by Kim and Matt Mangine Sr. to educate parents, coaches, and athletes about the number of preventable sudden deaths. We strive to raise awareness about cardiac episodes by educating parents, coaches, and athletes on the importance of properly executing Emergency Action Plans. We advocate for the expanded use of AEDs along with heat/cold therapy devices. Our purpose is to make sure youth and high school athletes are properly cared for because no family should have to endure the pain of a sudden death that is preventable. You have one shot to save a life.
